History of the Bangladeshi Flag

The national flag of Bangladesh is currently used with official status. However, its journey to the present day has not been easy. The flag has gone through many complex stages throughout its history. Unfortunately, the historical accounts of the flag are often incorrect in many sources. The country, which gained full independence in 1971, went through tough periods before this. According to this, the national flag was officially approved on January 17, 1972. It resembles the flag used during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. In the initial design of the flag during this period, the red-toned sun symbol in the center also included a map of the country. However, a law was enacted that permanently removed this symbol.

Meaning of the Bangladeshi Flag

The flag is primarily made up of a green background. In the center, there is a red-toned circular symbol. The green background on the flag directly represents the country’s land. The red-toned circular symbol represents the blood of the Bangladeshi freedom fighters who lost their lives during the struggle for independence. Bangladesh, in its quest for complete independence, suffered significant military losses. The soldiers who lost their lives during this period are held in high regard by the nation’s people.

Dimensions of the Bangladeshi Flag

You can safely use the national flag in various sizes and areas. The Bangladeshi government does not impose any legal restrictions in this regard. When using the flag on a desk, we design the smallest flag size as 15×22.5 cm. When used as a flagpole banner, we deliver the flag in dimensions of 100×150 cm.

Uses of the Bangladeshi Flag

There are many factors that make the national flag special. Among these is the flag’s extensive use across Bangladesh since it was officially recognized. Today, when you visit Bangladesh, you will see the Bangladeshi flag being used in shopping centers, health centers, government offices, military ceremonies, military areas, and many other different places. The Bangladeshi people show great respect towards religion and the flag. Therefore, when visiting the country, you will notice an intense use of the flag beyond your expectations. In many city centers, you will also find grand and magnificent squares. The flag is also used in such areas, especially during special celebrations. For this reason, the national flag of Bangladesh is among the most used symbols. In government buildings, the flag is also used indoors, not just during special days and celebrations.
