The flag was first officially adopted on January 23, 1831. The history of the country’s flag stands out as quite extraordinary. In 1830, in the opera center in Brussels, resistance was organized by Belgium against the Dutch administration. In this context, the first flag design consisting of horizontal and 3 stripes in total was adopted. The flag color tones in question consisted of 3 different color tones in total, red, yellow and black. The country was under the rule of France for many years in history. However, it also had to stay under German occupation for many years. It was finally liberated by the British and managed to declare its sovereignty in this context. However, Belgium showed a strong resistance against all country pressures. In this context, no changes could be made to the flag of the country. Only in 1792, small touches were made on the flag. The flag has been used on the same design from that day until today.
