History of the Finnish Flag

Once a Russian colony, Finland adopted its flag after declaring independence and breaking away from the influence of other countries. For over a century, the same flag has been flying over Finland, which gained its freedom both officially and nationally. This flag, which holds significant importance, was initially under Swedish influence but began to represent independence on its own after Finland achieved full sovereignty. The only change over the years has been the gradual darkening of the blue hue used in the flag. Previously, Finnish territories were colonized and did not have their own flag.

The flags of colonizing states were flown on the flagpoles. Locals who wished to break free from colonization designed national flags with red and yellow colors to symbolize their intent to exit Russian colonization. However, this flag was not very effective and was soon taken down. Later, Finland, having declared full independence, introduced a design that was distinct from both the Russian and Swedish flags. The foundation of this design dates back to 1848.

Meaning of the Finnish Flag

Initially, the flag featured horizontal yellow and red stripes with an animal figure and a soldier holding a sword in the upper left corner. However, the flag needed to carry official, national, and religious significance. Over time, a flag design emerged that carried each of these meanings and is still in use today. It features a blue cross on a white background. The only change made to the flag over the years has been a slight darkening of the blue hue. No other noticeable or substantial changes have been made.

Dimensions of the Finnish Flag

For smaller sizes, we mainly produce flags in dimensions of 20×30, 50×75, and 100×150 cm. Smaller sizes are preferred for desktop use. For flags that need to be flown on flagpoles or in large areas like walls and outdoors, dimensions such as 6×9 and 8×12 meters are offered. This ensures that there are no issues with sizes.

Uses of the Finnish Flag

Within the country, the flag is used in the courtyards of all official and private institutions. It is used in the interior and exterior areas of healthcare institutions. It should also be displayed in schoolyards, on walls, and on desks in office spaces. The flag can be produced in printed, painted, or embroidered forms. Depending on preferences, we select the fabric, choose the sewing style, and continue to deliver orders promptly.
