History of the Latvian Flag

The Latvian flag, which is officially used today, was introduced on February 27, 1990. Latvia draws attention with its relevant history. The flag was officially used in 1918 after the country was liberated directly from the sovereignty of the Soviet Union. Due to the pressures of the Soviet Union, the country’s flag was banned from official use for long periods. Nevertheless, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it declared its full independence.
