The country, which has been under Western colonization for a long time in its history, could not declare its full independence for a long time. The country gained full independence from France, one of the colonial states of the period, on August 3, 1960. The design of the country’s flag is also similar to the official flag of its close neighbor Ivory Coast. The two countries have also long been linked, especially economically. Unlike many African countries, Niger has a shorter history. This is because it was only directly controlled by France. We can emphasize that many countries on the African continent have been colonized by more than one colonial power in their history.
