History of the Flag of Palau

The flag of Palau, which was raised for the first time on January 1, 1981, has a different history. The country has been under the colonization of the United States of America for many years. For this reason, it has struggled for full independence for long periods. Palau declared its full independence from the Pacific Security Zone of that country on October 1, 1994. The country could not officially use its flag until this period. Palau had signed an official economic and defense support agreement with the United States.

The official flag of Palau consists of a rectangular background in a light blue hue with a yellow circular symbol in the middle of the flag. The blue hue symbolizes the country’s all-round maturity and high success in its political transition, while the yellow circle symbolizes the moon and represents national unity. In addition, according to the country’s beliefs, the yellow hue also represents national economic power. Each country’s flag has a different meaning and history. Palau is on the list of countries that have not been heard much in the world from past to present. The country has not been able to develop economically in the long term. The main reason for this situation is that it is directly controlled by the United States.
