History of the Flag of Southern Cyprus

The flag of Southern Cyprus, adopted on 16 August 1960 and used by the Republic of Southern Cyprus, has a very interesting design. This flag, which has a very meaningful design and pleasant colors, continues to arouse curiosity with its history. The flag of Southern Cyprus, with the map of the island of Cyprus in the middle, is decorated in orange. At the bottom of the island’s map, there is a plant representing peace. The color used in the plant is shades of green, which symbolize peace. Cyprus, which had not yet achieved independence until 1960, managed to raise its flag on this date. Cyprus, which has existed since ancient times, is a small island country that has recently gained its independence as a Republic. The yellow color tone used in the flag is actually preferred as the copper color tone mined in the country and symbolizes this feature of the country.

Since the copper color tone is wanted to be reflected exactly the same, the color is obtained at 144 degrees. Using Pantone material, the color is used on the flag exactly as desired. This flag, designed by Turkish Cypriot Painter İsmet Güney, was accepted as soon as it appeared. No other designs or colors are used. This design, which was drawn quickly and widely accepted, has continued to be used unchanged since 1960. The flag, which is loved and used by the people of Cyprus, is the first and only official flag of the country.

Southern Cyprus Flag Meaning

The Cyprus flag, which has a white background, includes a map of Cyprus and an olive branch. This flag, designed by İsmet Güney, is the first, only and perhaps the last official flag of the country. The flag design, adopted in 1960, has survived to the present day. It is the flag model currently used today. White, copper and green color tones attract attention in the flag, which is very meaningfully accepted and loved by the people of Southern Cyprus. The white background symbolizes purity and cleanliness and an active life. The copper color tone on it is achieved at a specially heated temperature. This color tone, which evokes orange and yellow hues, represents the copper mine that has been mined and sold on the island since ancient times. Pantone material is used to obtain the exact same color tone of the mined mineral, and this material is obtained by melting it at 144 degrees. At the same time, the olive branch at the bottom of the map also takes its place on the flag as a symbol symbolizing peace. It is a symbol that both represents peace and represents the greenery on the island.
