South Korean Flag History
The flag of South Korea, one of the Far Eastern countries, also has interesting information about its history. The flag, which has white, black, blue and red colors, was designed in 1882. A flag design symbolizing dynamism and an active life was designed in the country also known as the Republic of Korea. The Korean flag was adopted on January 25, 1950. It has continued to be used in the same way without any changes since then. It is a flag with a white background and a blue and red balance symbol in the middle. There are tiny black triple poles of equal size in the four corners. This flag, which has a very different design, refers to figures used specifically in the Far East. The Republic of Korea is a new state established in August 1948. This region, which previously had a single state and territory, was divided into two different states, South Korea and North Korea, on the same date. From the moment they left, the idea that they should have a different flag arose. Based on this, design studies started immediately and efforts were made day and night to reach the most suitable design. On January 25, 1950, the flag design, which was completed and now clearly decided, was ready to be hoisted.
South Korean Flag Meaning
White, which is a very special color for the Republic of Korea, is preferred as the background color under the Korean flag. The white color at the bottom is the basic color of the national people and represents the people. The balance sign consisting of red and blue colors at the top represents the two regions called yang and yin. The red area is used for yang and the blue area is used for yin. Yin and yang are among the universally known symbols. It represents two opposing sides, both universally and semantically. While it represents contrast, it also reveals the potential to remain in balance. In this section that represents contrast, there are actually no clearly defined concepts. It has the ability to be interpreted in various ways. For example, negative and positive are interpreted as completely opposite concepts such as man and woman, night and day, good and bad. Yin is more passive and bad
While it symbolizes positions, it refers to situations that are more active and find a place in life dynamically. The flag, which has a very meaningful symbol, also has black stripes in the corners. The meaning of the black lines with different cuts at each corner is to represent the elements. Each of the elements, which are known as fire, water, earth, wood and metal, are expressed with black lines. Thus, even though the contrast in the middle is opposite to each other, the elements on the edges represent the state of being equal for everyone.
