History of the Iranian Flag

The country’s flag was officially adopted on 29 July 1980. The color tones on the flag are mostly composed of traditional country color tones. Accordingly, it can be estimated that it dates back to the 18th century. Until 1905, the flag was used in a total of 3 different color options, including bed and solid stripes. In 1933, the pink color tone on the flag was replaced with a red color tone. For 400 years, the country was directly ruled by a monarchy regime until the Republic was approved in 1979. The country’s flag was last officially adopted on May 9, 1980 by the country’s religious leader, Ayatollah Khomeini. Since that date, the flag has been in use without any changes.
