History of the Mali Flag

The country’s flag was first officially approved on March 1, 1961. Since Mali is an African country, like other African countries, it has been under Western colonialism for many years. For this reason, the country was able to use its flag in official status after a long period of time. Mali gained full independence from France on September 22, 1960. The flag of the Mali Federation, which was created by France, Sudan and Senegal as the first flag of the country, was approved on April 4, 1959. Senegal decided to secede from the Mali Federation in August 1960. In line with this decision, it was decided to change the flag of the country in 1961. The official flag of Senegal is also similar to the official flag of Mali in many features. The only difference is that there is no star symbol on the flag.
