On 25 October 2001, the flag of the country, which was officially adopted, also has a sun on it as well as colours. This sun has 24 rays. Before this flag, the country used a different flag until 2001. The flag used before the current flag consisted of Pan-African colours. There was a letter ‘R’ on the old Rwandan flag. The new flag does not have this letter. The letter had two meanings. The first was the initial letter of the country. The other is that it represents the referendum and the republic. The history of the Rwandan flag and what it means can generally be explained in this way. In 2001, the new flag officially used has been used unchanged until today and continues to be used in this way.

Rwanda Flag Meaning

The flag officially recognised by the country of Rwanda consists of three horizontal stripes. The lowest of these three horizontal stripes is green in colour. The strip in the middle has a yellow colour. Finally, the stripe at the top is blue. It should be noted that there is also a sun on the blue coloured stripe. It is seen that the sun has 24 rays. In addition, the lower stripes on the Rwandan flag are of equal size. That is, the green and yellow stripes are the same size. The blue stripe at the top is larger than them. Each colour on the flag has a meaning. At the same time, the sun also has a different meaning. First of all, the green colour at the bottom represents the resources in the country and the hope and prosperity to be obtained by using these resources in the right way. The yellow stripe of the same length above it is there to express economic development. The blue upper part of the flag and the sun with 24 rays represent the light that illuminates the people.
